Apley Holiday Cottages – great value English country holidays

Visitors book comments, Dec 2012Apley Holiday Cottages are always ready for last minute guests, but over the weekend, we’ve been doing some Spring cleaning ready for your 2014 break. It didn’t seem like 6 hrs, bu that’s how long I’ve spent just in Bridge & Forge Cottages (we didn’t even start Linley), updating guest instructions, inventories & other Spring sorting out jobs – with the help of our housekeeper Fiona. Like any home, they need attention to detail & to retain our gold ratings from Visit Britain. And that takes time. I’ve also spent about 6 hrs with Jennie (Apley Estate Office) last week looking at ways we can improve our website & marketing. The result will be a continuity of the provision of 3 lovely cottages with great service, including your experience of our booking procedure, the duration of your actual holiday & keeping in touch with us after your stay.

Thatch at Hundred HouseThere are 3 things that really matter – the cottage itself, good food & what to do locally.

We’ve kitted out the cottages with top furnishings, many of which are of the same standard as those we have at home – if not identical. Feather & down filled pillows & duvets (synthetic are available for those with allergies), lined & interlined curtains from top fabric designers, fluffy white cotton towels, crisp white cotton sheets, deep pocket sprung mattresses, private parking, garden, barbecue & garden furniture, woodburners & wide flat screen televisions.

Good food  – at Apley we’re involved in every stage – we grow it, we prepare it, we sell it.

Send us your shopping list & we’ll fill your fridge from Apley Farm Shop. Apley Walled Gardens & the Head Gardener himself are very close to our cottages. The fruit & vegetables are sold through Apley Farm Shop, where you’ll also find our butcher, delicatessen (ready made meals are ideal for holiday makers), freshly baked cakes on site, fresh local bread, our Creamery Café Restaurant, nature trail, animal park, playbarn, toy shop & clothes shop. Your holiday might even coincide with one of our monthly events – Easter on 19-20 April, Jousting on 3 May, Open Farm Sunday on 8 June, Icecream Sundae on 27 July.

What to do locally – we can help you be well prepared with good holiday planning. Shropshire offers something for everyone – very active holiday makers, older guests, young families, groups – the options are huge ! Activities, events & attractions. For activities, to begin with, literally on your doorstep at Apley, you have 5 – canoeing, fishing, cycling, golf & walking. For others, just search this blog for ‘Things to Do’ & you’ll find a A-Z of Things to Do in Shropshire. For events, on our website, www.apleyholidaycottages.co.uk you have Shropshire Tourism’s up to date list of events. on that tomorrow. For attractions, they’re all listed on http://www.shropshiredaysout.co.uk but I’ll tell you my favourites, tried & tested, later this week.

On the way to the cottages today, I snapped this photo of the progress Mr Draycott has made thatching one of the buildings at the Hundred House Hotel in Norton. We have some other thatch properties on the Apley Estate, but on the whole, they’re now pretty rare.
