Easter @ Apley

23 Feb 2013, Easter Simnal cake by Julie Wycherley 25 March 2013, Easter shop window display, I Love Gorgeous 2Easter is fast approaching & we’re getting ready at Apley ! The whole site will be open on Easter Saturday, 19 April. On Easter Sunday, 20 April, the Farm Shop will be the only bit of the site to be closed. The Creamery Café Restaurant, Pigg’s Playbarn, the Skylark Nature Trail, Piglet’s Toy Shop & Scotty’s Donkeys & Animal Park will be open as usual 10-4pm (Lottie’s Clothing tbc).

At Scotty’s Animal Park, you can ride a donkey (Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem), stroke a bunny rabbit & you may even see one of the hens lay an egg if you watch long enough ! or spot the signs of Spring & new life along the 45 min nature trail walk.

There will be Easter activities for children in the Playbarn from Monday 14 to Friday 17 April. including of course an Easter bonnet competition & Easter basket craft workshops. Many children enjoyed the Easter Day Easter egg hunt last year, so we’re likely to do that again. I’ll confirm asap. More details to follow.

The Farm Shop will have Easter presents, edible & non-edible – chocolates, wine & planters of Spring flowers from Apley Walled Gardens, plus Spring lamb from Apley farmer Henry Yates. Our cake baker Julie has been busy making simnal cakes & the Creamery’s menu will have some seasonal & chocolate dishes. To book a table for your Easter Day lunch or tea (possibly outside if we’re lucky), just call 01952 730 345 & book with Maxine or Zoe.

At home, we’ve got a great collection of eggs to decorate an ‘Easter tree’. I was helping our children this weekend to blow an egg (hard work !), rinse it out, then paint it, dress it in scraps of fabric or wind wool round it (with glue).

London looks so pretty in the Spring sunshine. Every street seems to have blooming magnolias (both magnolias stellatas & grandifloras), camellias of all colours & cherry blossom now dropping on the pavements like confetti.

PS. I meant to say ages ago that a friend has very kindly just said that she’ll drive miles to come & buy Mark Lowe’s sausages from Apley Farm Shop, which she says are the best in Shropshire. That’s endorsed by her son & husband, who enjoy great tasting food.
