April events @ Apley Farm Shop
Rhubarb is on promotion this week in Apley Farm Shop & we’ve put together a £5 crumble pack which includes butter, flour, sugar & of course the rhubarb ! Why not add seeds, nuts, dried fruit & spices to the rhubarb & mix granola into the crumble mix.
April is Asparagus month—For some tasty recipes, see http://www.british-asparagus.co.uk. My favourite is Tempura tiger prawns with soy & sesame asparagus. I’ve just been sent this great photo of asparagus, the first of which has just arrived from Quatt, near Bridgnorth.
Tomorrow, Thursday 3 April, is Children’s Art Club in Pigg’s Playbarn again. After school, 4-5.30pm , it’s suitable for 4-11 yr olds. They’re trying some still life drawing this week, using chalk & charcoal. There’s only one more session after this, which will be The Big Picture, allowing the children to use their favourite materials & techniques they’ve tried since 27 February when the club began.
On Saturday 5 April, the theme of the Cookery Club will be lamb with a talk, Field to Fork, by Apley farmer Henry Yates. Everyone’s welcome, totally free, running 10-11.30am in The Conference Room. Henry Mr Yates may even bring in live lamb !
Our Craft Fair season begins on Sunday 6 April, this year organised by Katie & Frances, 2 members of our staff who enjoy organising events.
Saturday 12 April will be an exciting day, firstly because Tilley Green Coffee Company will be launching their coffee in the Farm Shop & Creamery Café. Changing your regular tea or coffee at home is a big decision, so imagine for the Shop & Café, it wasn’t a decision taken lightly – we have a lot of customers who love our coffee. But we’re sure they’ll enjoy Tilley Green’s coffee as much if not more. Come & try it !
Secondly, we’ll be launching our Heli trips from the field below Apley Farm Shop. There are 2 trips – ‘Shrewsbury by Air’ (30mins) or the ‘Scenic Severn’ (36mins), both of which can incorporate a flight around the Apley Estate. From Fathers’ day on Sunday 15 June, there will also be an ‘Apley Estate by Air’ tour’. More on that here & on our website very soon. http://www.helitrip.co.uk/
Mon-Thurs 17-20 April & 22-24 April, there will be Easter activities for children in Pigg’s Playbarn (St George’s Day activities on Wednesday 23 April).
On Easter Saturday, 19 April, there will be Easter activities for children in Pigg’s Playbarn & Scotty’s Animal Park, donkey rides (very appropriate for Palm Sunday 13 April), Spring lamb, Easter flowers & chocolates.
On Sunday 20 April, Easter Sunday, the Creamery Café & Pigg’s Playbarn will be open, as will Scotty’s, Lottie’s & Piglets, but by law, the shop has to be closed.
