May & June at Apley Farm Shop

4 May 2013, Jousting 17Mike the Knight imageJousting & Helitrips at Apley Farm Shop are just 2 of our next forthcoming events. Apley is a great source of your 7-a-day (the new recommendations) fruit & vegetables. Local & seasonal food is our passion & focus, but there’s always heaps more happening at Apley – a photography course, the cookery club, Cheese Week, Walled Garden tours, free tasters, exhibitions & regular events for great days out.

May at Apley begins with a bang – Apley’s Second Jousting Fair on Saturday 3 May , 10-5pm is even bigger & better than last year’s. There will be a second arena, lurcher racing, birds of prey displays, circus school, Have-a-Go Sword fighting, Have-a-Go Archery, medieval themed stalls in a village square, mead, ale & hog roasts. Even Mike the Knight will be there, much to the delight of nearly every child. I like this behind-the-scenes photo I took last year, just before they began.

The Apley Walled Garden Open tour in May is on Tuesday 6 May, meeting the Head Gardener at Apley Farm Shop at 10am. Amateur photographers can book a one-day photography course with local professional, Karen Hartnell-Beavis on Wednesday 7 May in Apley’s Conference Room.

Apley Cookery Club’s meeting on Saturday 10 May will be a tour of Apley Walled Garden, led by the Head Gardener Phil Allen. All Cookery Club members welcome, though places need to be booked in advance.

From 26 May, Apley’s Delicatessen counter will be celebrating British Cheese Week with tasters & recipes. There are lots of great ideas at
