Apley Walled Garden news – University of Wolverhampton film
This May, The University of Wolverhampton, Telford Innovation Campus, has been awarded The Soil Association’s prestigious bronze award Food for Life catering mark, in recognition of the fresh & healthy meals it serves to students, staff & visitors [at the University]. They’ve made a film about it – just CLICK HERE to see it. The Apley bit of the film is 1:55 to 2:55.
Derek Maxfield, Catering Manager of the University of Wolverhampton Telford, has been working closely with Phil Allen, Head Gardener of Apley Walled Gardens & Mark Lowe, the butcher at Apley Farm Shop, buying vegetables, meat & game. This helps them keep their food miles low & meet their sustainability targets. We’ve increased our production hugely in the Walled Gardens this year to meet their needs. Most importantly, it’s a pleasure to be working with the University.
Here are some of Phil’s most recent Walled Garden photos: Cherry blossom, mizuna, fan trained apricot & artichokes.
Today, Phil (Allen) gave a tour to a local group & here he is clearly enjoying giving a post tour talk in The Creamery Café. To book a tour & or talk, just text or call Phil on 07746 01 30 50 or email headgardener@apleyestate.com. Lord Hamilton is also sometimes available to talk to groups about the Walled Gardens & the development of the Apley Estate.
