Tasters in Apley Farm Shop this Saturday, 17 May

2014-05-14, Purple asparagusWe’ve got a busy next few days in Apley Farm Shop. Today, Thursday 15 May, Shropshire Chamber of Agriculture are bringing a group of 70-80 members for a farm walk, meeting in Apley Farm Shop at 2.30pm, visiting the Apley farms & Apley Walled Gardens then returning to The Creamery Café & Farm Shop.

Tomorrow, Friday 16 May, it’s Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day, with children’s food activities in the Playbarn.

My lunch today includes some delicious purple asparagus from R T Lees from Quatt near Bridgnorth – it’s excellent raw in a salad or griddled, which keeps its colour.

Our shop manager Beck has just confirmed – there are 2 suppliers coming to give tasters in Apley Farm Shop this Saturday 17 May:

  • Liqueur cakes from Little Red Hen Cake Company – Aga baked. Ginger liqueur, Orange & chocolate liqueur, coconut liqueur.
  • Sloe Motion will also be offering tasters, so it’ll be quite a boozy Saturday ! They supply us with their flavoured gins, vodkas, brandies, whiskies, jellies & chutneys.

As National Wine Week runs from 24 May, we’ve invited 2 wine suppliers to offer tasters on 24 & 31 May:

  • Halfpenny Green Vineyards supplies us with many wines including Cartway, Penny Rose, Penny Red, an array of their fruit wines – strawberry, raspberry & ginger amongst others.
  • We also currently stock Beacon Valley‘s mead (honey wine), strawberry white zinfandel (a sweet, rosé wine), peach chardonnay (excellent pudding wine), pear wine, elderflower wine & elderberry wine.
