Gardening club at Pigg’s Playbarn

2014-05-08, Gardening club (1)

It’s never too late to join in the Gardening Club at Pigg’s Playbarn after school on Thursdays. 16-17h30, it costs £3.50 & includes 30 mins free play in the playbarn.

Phil Allen, Head Gardener of Apley Walled Gardens, drops in every week to offer his top tips.

So far they’ve planted tomatoes, radishes, sunflowers, pumpkins, cress & mustard.

The last 3 sessions are (this week, tomorrow) Thurs 26 June, Thurs 3 & Thurs 10 July – salad leaves this week, chilli plants & for our last session, aubergines.

PS. Just had an email from the Shropshire Organic Gardeners who’ve just toured Apley Walled Gardens.  One of their members wrote: “Purple potatoes are something else on a salad, what variety are they?” & Phil replied: “Purple Majesty. It will keep its colour when mashed, chipped, roasted and boiled. Have a look in the shop as we have Apache & International kidney as well. Coming soon will be Rooster and pink fir apple.”
