As I returned to London on Sunday night after the school Christmas holidays, one of the podcasts I listened to was all about cheese, which inspired me to share Apley Farm Shop’s Cheese of the Week or last week & this week. The speaker was totally passionate about cheese & even believes there are cheeses which are not worthy of us – ie. they‘re not good enough to be eaten by really serious cheese lovers !

This week’s cheese of the week in Apley Farm Shop is Mr Moyden’s Newport cheese. Made from un-pasteurised cow’s milk & named after the Shropshire market town of Newport, north Shropshire, it has a unique flavour derived from the Shropshire pastures where the cows graze. The rind is brushed with local rapeseed oil to aid maturation which lasts 3-4 months. The resulting cheese is pale tangerine in colour, a mellow buttery taste & flakey texture with a subtle aromatic sweetness. In Apley Farm Shop, it’s £2.49 per 100g

Also noteworthy, is Abbot’s Gold Cheddar with Caramelised Onion made by the Wensleydale  dairy. Made from pasturised cow’s milk with an ‘amazing burst of flavour’, it’s a smooth creamy cheddar carefully combined with rich, sweet caramelised onions. In Apley Farm Shop, it’s £1.95 per 100g
