January dates at Apley

Robert Burns, Scottish poet, 1759–1796

Robert Burns, Scottish poet, 1759–1796

Very rarely, I take my pc & sit in Daylesford’s café & work there for a couple of hours. It’s great to get out & about & work in a new environment. Lots of others tap away on their laptops alongside me & I find I don’t get so distracted by phone calls.

So today, whilst I sit here, I must tell you 4 special time-sensitive things before January disappears: Firstly, the cheese of this week is a cheddar called Westcombe – more below. Secondly, please vote for us before midnight this Sunday by clicking HERE ! Thirdly, enjoy a very Scottish lunch celebrating the poet Robbie Burns is coming up on Sunday 25 January. Lastly, don’t miss free tasters on Sat 31 Jan in the Farm Shop.

Westcombe Cheddar

If you’re a cheese lover & follow Apley’s weekly cheese choices, have a taste of Westcombe Cheddar. It’s made in Somerset from unpasturised cow’s milk. It’s a hand-crafted traditional cheddar made in much the same way as it was when Mrs Brickell began making it over 100 years ago. It has a “deep, complex flavour with a mellow, lactic tang & long notes suggesting citrus, hazelnut & caramel. It’s structured & firm, with a smooth breakdown so its flavours linger”.

Vote for us before midnight on Sunday, 18 January !

The Creamery Café’s breakfast dish registered for the Farmhouse Breakfast Week is Apley eggs – Two rashers of Apley Butcher’s home cured bacon & two poached eggs on a toasted tea cake finished with a cheddar cheese & chive sauce. £5.50, includes a cup of tea or a filtered coffee. Breakfast is served 9.30-11.30 (Mon-Sat) & 10-11.30am (Sun). Booking is recommended at weekends. Just call 01952 730 345, option 2 for the Café.

Sunday 25 Jan Burns Night

With a Scottish head chef & Burn’s Night landing on a Sunday this year, Martin will be serving haggis, neeps & tatties for Sunday lunch on Sunday 25 January. Don’t miss your chance for a taste of something a bit different !

Sat 31 Jan taster day

To mark the end of Farmhouse Breakfast week, don’t miss free tasters & special promotions from the Ludlow Nut Company, Mike’s Homemade [jams], Buttonbridge (eggs, lemon curds & marmalades) & Taste of Tanzania coffee on Sat 31 Jan, 10.30 – 3.30pm.
