Farmhouse Breakfast Week

Farmhouse Breakfast Week

It’s the RSPB’s Big Birdwatch this weekend 24-25 January, but also Sunday marks the start of the national campaign, Farmhouse Breakfast Week which runs 25-31 January. For the 3rd year running, Apley Farm Shop has made a link with the children of the Bridgnorth Endowed School for the breakfast week, which focuses on starting the day in a healthy way. Amongst the breakfast ingredients which Gavin will be delivering on Tuesday are delicious local eggs, bacon, sausages, Shropshire Granola, & local Mawley Milk.

I’m often eat light & early suppers, sometimes with the children if Gavin’s away, so I’m really hungry by breakfast time ! Many people say they vary their lunches & suppers, but almost never their breakfasts. Breakfasts are like foundation stones – get it right & you feel great for the whole day, with the right amounts of energy at the right times.

Yoghurts, fruits, juices, wholegrain cereals, eggs & sausages for sale in the Farm Shop & also all on the breakfast menu in the Farm Shop’s Creamery Café, which was listed in December 2014 in the Sunday Times magazine as one of the top three farm shop café restaurants in the UK.

Shake up your wake up is the slogan of the breakfast campaign, organized by the cereals division of the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board.  When researching this, I read its reports that “research shows that eating breakfast can give you more energy, help reduce stress levels, improve concentration, mood and may even help you to manage your weight. However, a survey conducted for Breakfast Week shows that a worrying quarter (25%) of people are skipping breakfast once or more during the week, with more than one in ten (13%) never eating it. Getting ready for the day takes priority for 28 per cent, followed by catching up on sleep (25%).  Despite this, 25% of people complain of feeling tired and low in energy if they have missed breakfast.
