Science Club – Lava lamps

The first Science Club in Pigg’s Playbarn went well, with children making lava lamps. If you want to drop in for any of the remaining 4 weeks, click HERE for more details.

Whilst in Apley Farm Shop on Saturday, I picked up some of our butcher’s home-smoked bacon for £9.95 per kg. He cures it for a week, hangs it for a week until dry & then smokes it on oak chips for 8 hours. He’s also now making handmade sausage rolls & his free range pork also looked particularly good.

But today, in Hamilton House, it’s mini toad in the holes (one of our children’s favourites) with Mark’s widely enjoyed sausages. If you want to do the same, spray-oil your muffin tray, quarter the sausages & put 2 in each muffin hole, cook for 15 mins without batter, then add the batter mix (1 egg, ½ pint milk, ¼lb plain flour) & cook for 30 mins at 375 deg. Serve quickly whilst the mini Yorkshire puddings (which is effectively what they are) begin to drop !

On Thursday & Friday this week (5 & 6 March), there are Mother’s Day card & paper flowers making workshops in Pigg’s Playbarn. For more details, click HERE.

On Sunday 8 March (10-4pm), Apley Courtyard will be hosting this year’s first craft fair – the Spring Craft Fair. Later this week, I’ll share details of the Crafter of the month who be demonstrating & ready to talk about their craft & answer questions. Apley craft fairs are held on the first Sunday of every month. Crafters should contact us on 01952 730 345 if interested in bringing a stall.

Cake of the month is Millionaire’s Shortbread, handmade on site by Julie of course, £2.50 in the Creamery Café, it’s also available in the Farm Shop. It’s a classic & always popular – the clue to the richness of this recipe is of course in the name !
