Crystal lemons in Apley Walled Garden
These delicious round yellow balls growing in Apley Walled Garden are crystal lemons (think cucumbers), not cuca-melons – so forgive me, I got it wrong a few days ago when I first mentioned them. Cuca-melons will be ready in about 3 weeks.
Phil also dropped off some delicious giant tomatoes & these small, sweet heritage tomatoes which have a purple tinge. Totally scrummy. I had them for supper last night & lunch today ! They’re Rosella (the rose pink cherry tomato), Russian Rose (larger than the cherry tomatoes, but about the same colour) & Brandy wine tomatoes (dating from 1885).
In Apley Farm Shop, pick up any 3 soft fruits from Apley Walled Garden for £5.99: choose from strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, red, black & white currants. They’re £2.29 each which is better value than an well-known, good quality supermarket ! To make the most of this delicious soft fruit, next week Julie will be creating tartlets in our bakery.
