Apley summer fruit tarts
One of the chefs in The Creamery Café at Apley Farm Shop, Matt Jones, has just made these delicious summer fruit tarts using fruit from our own Apley Walled Garden. Phil Allen, Head Gardener of the latter, is off to Shrewsbury Flower Festival for Friday & Saturday with an Apley Walled Garden stand.
In the meantime, our first ever dog show will be at Apley Farm Shop, with pedigree & novelty classes. Your first class is £2 & every class thereafter £1.50. Paws for Thought will bring their fabulous dog display team (the hoops of fire bit will be extra spectacular I’m sure) & all proceeds are going to dog charities & canine research.
The courtyard is looking so pretty after the Apley Plant Centre weekend, full of flowering verbena bonareiensis plants which they were giving away to each paying customer (worth £8). I saw them this evening when I met Graeme (land agent) onsite to discuss autumnal & winter decorations for the site. The children will be back at school soon, so I need to get the ball rolling !
Whilst I was there, Francis rollerbladed round the carpark (after hours, no traffic, smooth tarmac !) & Jon Callinswood, one of our butchers, was finishing a game pie. He showed me one of his award winning pork pies ready to cook in the morning.
