Autumn planting weekend at Apley Plant Centre

Apley AutumnI have just received this update for the next two events at the Apley Plant Centre at Apley Farm Shop, so get ready to be inspired. Melanie & Gaye are so creative, inspiring & knowledgeable, it’s hard not to reach for your gardening gloves !

Their dates coincide with 2 of our next key events:

Sat 26 Sept is also the Apley Taste Off – enjoy free tasters & meet Shropshire fine food producers.

Sat 24 Oct is the start of our Spookley Pumpkin Festival – a fun, non scary Halloween week (runs until 31 Oct).

Apley Plant Centre’s experts say that if you are ever going to plant a plant that can stand the test of time, autumn is the season. Why?  Trees and hedging, fruit trees and bushes, and roses and bulbs all need well-established roots that run deep into the soil; so with temperatures cool, but soils still warm from the summer, autumn time is perfect.  Plants placed in this warm and moist environment are able to spread their roots down and out, which gives them strength and greater sustainability power.

To celebrate the start of the ‘real’ gardening season, Apley Plant Centre is holding two event weekends in September and October to showcase its autumn and winter planting ranges, and to offer expert advice on plant and hedging selection, garden design and plant husbandry.  Special multi-buy offers will also be available on both weekends.

Save the dates:

  • September 26th / 27th – ‘Autumn Is the Best Time to Plant’ – With a special focus on perennials, grasses, shrubs, trees and a small selection of winter bedding
  • October 24th / 25th – Hedging Ideas / Creating Hedging / Creative Hedging

Find out more about hedging; get advice from knowledgeable staff on how to plant and look after a hedge and what varieties will work best to satisfy your hedging need.

Apley Plant Centre is a boutique style plant centre, which opened in the Apley Farm Shop Courtyard in June. It is stocked and managed by Shropshire’s largest plant nursery, Worfield Plants (a trading division of Boningale Limited). As well as plants, the centre also stocks a small selection of gardening goods, such as a range of composts, tools, decorative plant pots and other high quality garden sundries”.
