Our staff clearly got into the spirit of the 3rd Spookley Pumpkin Festival at Apley Farm Shop today – & from this photo, it’s the parents who were enjoying the pumpkin carving as much as the children ! The festival continues tomorrow (Sun 18 Oct) & during half term week 24-31 Oct. Click HERE to book your tickets online. Francis spotted this first fireworks over the fields this evening just as it was getting dark at 7pm. It’s his birthday next week, so Julie (chief cake baker at Apley Farm Shop) kindly made a huge tray-bake of very seasonal chocolate & apple brownies.

As we get very close to the clocks falling back an hour (next Sunday), we’ve nearly got the lighting organised to go down the Apley Farm Shop entrance drive, which will light up many wintry mornings & evenings ahead.

Earlier on this evening, I prepared really fun & whacky Christmas decorations for the farm shop, whilst Gavin’s been at a charity presentation & dinner. I can’t wait to hang them on Saturday 14 November, when we hold our Christmas Launch in the farm shop. We’re very close to putting online tickets for sale for Breakfasts & Afternoons Teas with [a visit from] Santa & Santa’s Grotto. In previous years, they’ve all been very popular with local Shropshire families. Chef Matt Jones has just sent me great Christmas menu ideas to consider.

Tomorrow, as part of my ongoing Apley Archives project, I’m going to meet an 85 yr old man, who is the son of the last butler at Apley Hall, when Major AW Foster was still living when it was correctly known as Apley Park, not Apley Hall). His precious memories will be a valuable part of the aural histories I’ve been slowly compiling – people who have lived & worked on the Apley Estate in the last 100 years.
