Banel beetroot – the harder the frosts, the sweeter the taste

Apley Walled Garden was mentioned again last week in Garden News. There’s another page I’m still trying to get, but here’s the taster for the time being. It’s eerily still & quiet there at this time of year when the frosts come & plants lie dormant until Spring. Phil’s been busy fertilising with farm & horse manure, catching up on 2015’s paperwork & preparing for 2016’s Spring planting.

For Christmas lunch, Venetia specifically requested the sweeter-tasting purple Brussels sprouts Phil has grown this year, she likes them so much ! If I turn my back, they disappear off my plate !
