I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve – already ! It’s wonderful how [very nearly] the whole world gets frantically busy before the universal deadline of 25 Dec, then stops (or perhaps just slows down) for a day or few. Yesterday was a really busy at Apley Farm Shop – Breakfast & Afternoon Tea with Santa, Santa’s Grotto, customers coming to collect their butcher & deli orders). Tomorrow we’ll be open will be open 8-4pm, perfect for last  minute shopping or anyone collecting their Christmas orders from the Apley butcher or Apley delicatessen counter. The SALE is now on ! Santa’s Grotto is open (walk-in, no booking required) 12-3pm.

I just found an enchanting letter to Santa Claus written by Francis (6) which I’m sure he’ll be putting by the chimney tomorrow. It’s tricky as his [early joined up] writing is sometimes illegible (similar to what your handwriting looks like if you’ve broken your usual writing arm!) & some things listed are really unobtainable or impractical, so I’ll have to be creative ! A ninga suit, fairy dust, toy dragon, pet tortoise (spelt tortes) or parrot, a glow in the dark ‘rainder’ who runs around the room at night, a guitar, a model (spelt modle) of you [Santa Claus], secret message [spelt mesige] watch, my very own secret torch, Caesar [his best friend]. PS. I can turn into a dragon.

Then a friend just sent us an email in lieu of a Christmas card with this amazing quote c.1460: “There is nothing I can give you which you have not; but there is much that, while I cannot give, you may take. No heaven can come to us unless our minds find rest in it today. Take heaven. No peace lies in the future which is not hidden in the present instant. Take peace. The gloom of the world is but a shadow; behind it, yet within reach, is joy. Take joy. And so, at this Christmas, I greet you with the trust that for you, now and forever, the day is reborn and the shadows fall away. Take Christmas”Fra Giovanni, 1433-1515
