Here’s the full press release about the competition:
“The county’s keenest cooks, foodies & bakers will soon get the chance to meet six of Shropshire’s talented chefs & enter a cake & tart competition, on at a farm shop near Bridgnorth.
Apley Farm Shop is holding its first Apley Bake Off on bank holiday Monday May 2.
Lady Hamilton explained “The day has four key parts – chefs demonstrations, chef-led masterclasses, the competitions & a children’s cookery corner. We want to give visitors a real, hands-on food experience. Plus it’s all undercover, so we’re prepared whatever the weather!”
All bakers & cooks are invited to take their chosen homemade cake along to Apley with the recipe & an application form, before 12.30pm on the day. Three of the chefs will be judging the cake & tart competition at 2pm on the day. Prizes for the winners include signed cookbooks, meals for two & farm shop vouchers.
Amongst the chefs present on the day will be Chris Burt of the Peach Tree & Momonoki restaurants in Shrewsbury & award winning Suree Coates of the King & Thai in Broseley. Others include Stuart Philips of the Hundred House in Norton, James Sherwin of the House of the Riding Sun, Lajina Leal of Masala Magic & Gilly Clayton of the Apley Cookery Club.
During the day, customers will be able to meet & chat with the six chefs after their cookery demonstrations, share culinary tips & even take part in the five chef-led masterclasses.
Chris Burt & Suree Coates have both authored & featured in several cookbooks, signed copies of which will be for sale on the day. They both regularly appear on BBC Radio Shropshire whilst James Sherwin appeared on Nigella Lawson’s The Taste TV show.
Chris Burt explained “What I love about this event is that it gives anyone the chance to learn a new culinary skill at first hand with chefs like me. I specialize in Japanese food, but I know there will also be Indian, Thai & English chefs there too, so the whole day will have an international feel.”
Lady Hamilton, event organiser & Marketing Manager added “It’ll be a great day out for all the family. There’s even a children’s cookery corner organised by Pigg’s Playbarn staff, to get them excited about cooking too.“
